“AJA has been part of my professional career since 1987 when I initially joined. There are
too many professional and personal friendships that have been established along the way to
mention. Over the years, I have turned to many of these persons for mentorship, guidance,
and to be a ‘sounding board.’ I remember being approached in 1993 while I was an active
duty Marine at an AJA conference in Portland, Oregon. A board member spoke to me about
my future and my becoming more involved with AJA. Honored that others would think I
had something to offer, I ran and was elected to the board. That led to various committee
work, putting on presentations, and ultimately becoming President of this great organiza-
tion. Who can forget the Nashville Opryland Presidential Suite?”
“Today, some 30-plus years later, I continue to attend conferences, do presentations,
am honored to teach at the National Jail Leadership Command Academy, maintain my
Certified Jail Manager certification, and willingly help in any way possible when called
upon by this great organization.”
