NEWS
We hope everyone is keeping cool and enjoying the summer, whether you are staying local, traveling, or spending the summer months in a cooler climate!
A great time was had by all at the Mother’s Day Celebration! Pictures from this event are posted below.
June was a busy month at the courts, with Twilight Tennis, the Drill/Free Clinic, and the Independence Day Celebration. Organized tennis activities will continue throughout the summer, and we’re looking forward to the Annual Members’ Appreciation Luncheon scheduled in October when everyone is back from their summer travels!
** HYDRATION REMINDER ** Please remember to stay hydrated off and on the courts! We’ve had a few players overcome by the heat, and it’s especially important during the summer months to drink water before, during and after play.
Calling all residents! Whether you are interested in learning to play tennis, looking for casual play, or continuing to grow in the game, the Free Clinic offered every month is a great opportunity to get together with friends, meet new people, get/stay fit and have fun on the court. Stop by the Tennis Pavilion to sign up. See Tennis Manager Gigi Casapu if you have any questions.

Tennis Tips
Number 9 of tennis doubles strategies for seniors: Use the lob intelligently to move the opposition back from the net.
In senior tennis, the athleticism of the net players may not be what it once was. It can certainly be a good plan to test this out with some well-executed lobs.
The lob return can be particularly effective if your opponents are moving to the net. However, it needs to be accurate if the opposition has a strong overhead or it is likely to cost you the point. If the lob is good, it may produce a missed overhead or allow your team the opportunity to take the net position.
You can use two kinds of lobs according to the moment of play: a defensive lob which is usually a flat or underspin shot, or an aggressive lob which is produced with a lot of topspin. The defensive lob is higher, giving you plenty of time to recover with your partner on the baseline and continue the point from there. The aggressive lob is a heavy topspin shot which keeps the ball on courts and has a very fast and high bounce, giving you and your partner the chance to take the net and finish the point from there.
