AUSF Football Cup–Asian University Football

Championship 2018 By Balka Christian Ting Ying

From the 29th of October until the 11th of November, the PolyU Men Soccer Team, participated in
the 2018 AUSF Football Cup in Jinjiang, China.

There were 16 competing teams from various Asian countries. After losing only one game in our
three group games, we sensationally qualified for the Quarterfinals. Packed with euphoria we went
into the next game against the Saudi Arabia. In a very physical and tactical game we managed to
draw after 90 minutes and beated the Saudis in the most gut-wrenching penalty shootout I had
ever experienced so far, which meant that we qualified for the Semifinals.

All in all, this tournament was an incredible experience for us. We grew together as a team and
represented Hong Kong as an unity that could compete with the “Big Guys”. We were extremely
thankful that we were able to take part in this tournament and believe that we not only improved in
an athletic perspective, but also in terms of team spirit and power of will.
