Woodball Team
By Julian Lo
“A trophy carries dust. Memories last forever.”– Mary Lou Retton
This year, we had accomplished the highest glory of Men’s Team for the first time ever. The acclaim
and applause in the field were boisterous when it was announced that PolyU was the Men’s Team
Champion. Over the year, players had practised very hard. Coach and assistant coaches had done
a lot of preparations, like hosting friendly matches that gave us huge confidence. We would not
have made it if missing one of these assistance. Yet, chasing on a same goal with this team was
my honor. The journey was absolutely precious.
I had played for the Woodball Team for four years. The previous three USFHK competitions were
my biggest regret. My performance wasn’t commensurate to what I have aimed. I couldn’t play like
I did in practice and friendly matches due to the pressure. The disappointment in the pass made
me lost motivation on aiming high again. However, teammates and coaches motivated me, gave
me advices to overcome my weaknesses. Although the progress was not smooth, my desire to
achieve our goal had overcome it. Persistence was important to lead us to the victory.
“Polywood” is my family. Any achievement that we had made wasn’t created by one year’s of work
only, but several years of accumulated experience.
Cheers with teammates and receiving the acclaim from the crowds made the most beautiful
moment in my university life.
