In the poem ‘My Shadow’, you read about how your shadow changes in
size at different times in a day. Do you know how a shadow is formed?
Let us perform this experiment to understand how a shadow is formed.

                You will need:

                 • an acrylic sheet
                 • a ball

                 • a torch

                 • a teddy bear
                What to do:

                 • Cover the windows of a room with the curtains and switch off
                      the light.

                 • Make sure that the room is dark.

                 • Set up all the objects on a table and keep the table near a wall.
                 • Throw light on each object one by one using a torch.

                 • Observe whether each object forms a shadow on the wall or not.

                What did you observe?

What do you conclude from this experiment?

Teacher’s note: Bring the learners’ attention to the fact that a shadow

is formed when light is not able to pass through an opaque object.
