                                                                                           Literature

In the story ‘The Treasure Hunt’, you read about Bill and Black Dog,
the sailors who were on a treasure hunt. Why do you think the stories
of sailors, shipwrecks and survival are so popular?

Match these famous shipwreck stories with their descriptions.

Young David Balfour is kidnapped on the orders of his miserly
uncle who knows he will inherit the former’s property. He finds
himself on a ship, bound for slavery in the Carolinas.

The saga of a family whose boat is shipwrecked on a deserted
island. Things look bleak, but the island is blessed with an
abundance of natural resources and the brave family survives and
                                           builds a successful colony.

A zoo owner sells his animals to a Canadian zoo and emigrates to
the country with his family. Animals and humans are on the same
ship, which is wrecked mid-Pacific. His 16-year-old son escapes on
a lifeboat, but so does a Bengal tiger called Richard Parker.

The unluckiest sailor ever, this man gets shipwrecked on each
of the four voyages he goes on, ending up in a strange land
each time. By the end of the book, the sailor has lost all faith
                                           in humanity.
