P. 11
Right after Anchal and Udit enter the classroom, their class facilitator enters.
Facilitator: Children! Hope all of you are prepared for the quiz.
Everyone: (together) Yes!
Anchal: (to Udit) I am sure I will be able to answer all the questions.
Udit: Our team will win this quiz.
There is an excitement amongst the learners. The facilitator divides the class into
different teams and begins the quiz.
Facilitator: So the first question is—When did India get independence?
Almost all the learners know the answer and shout simultaneously.
Everyone: 1947
Facilitator: (smiling) Very good! But raise your hand to answer. Now the next
question—Which is the national animal of India?
Anchal raises her hand.
Facilitator: Yes, Anchal.
Anchal: Tiger
Facilitator: You are right, Anchal. Next question—Name the bird that taps the
tree trunks with its beak to find insects.
Not many learners know the answer to this question.
Swami: (enthusiastically) Woodpecker
Facilitator: Very good, Swami. Keep it up.
The quiz continues for half an hour. Anchal and Udit’s team is leading.
Facilitator: Now, the last question!
Everyone is awaiting the last question so that the final score can be decided.
Facilitator: Tell me the name of any one helper working in your school.
Everyone is surprised. No one knows the answer to this question. Everyone gets
confused. Suddenly, Swami stands up.
Swami: Ma’am,we don’t know. Why have you asked this question? This is not
a general knowledge question. Why should we know and remember
the names of helpers?
