Chapter 6 Value: Teamwork
• In order to encourage teamwork at home, family members can prepare for festivals and
birthday parties together.
• Ensure that family members have meals together as regularly as possible.
• If your child tells you about over-competitive behaviour of peers at school, tell him/her to
cooperate with others and work as a team.
Chapter 7 Value: Peace
• Ensure that all conflicts at home, even between adults, are resolved peacefully without
shouting or arguing aggressively.
• Your peaceful relationship with your neighbours will encourage your child to develop such
a relationship with his/her peers.
• If your child has had a fight at school, encourage him/her to resolve it peacefully.
Chapter 8 Value: Acceptance of Others
• Any discriminatory behaviour, towards domestic help or a particular family member at
home or towards a disabled person or a tea seller outside, can inculcate such behaviour in
children. Ensure that you are a model of good behaviour for your child.
• You can show a film like ‘Paa’ or ‘Iqbal’ to your child that promotes this value in a subtle
manner.
Chapter 9 Value: Nurturing Environment
• You can take your child’s help in watering plants at home or a nearby park. This will make
him/her feel responsible for the environment.
• Any behaviour that leads to a wastage of resources like water, for example, washing the car
or the courtyard using a pipe, should be discouraged.
• You may sit with your child and watch nature-related programmes on National Geographic
or Discovery Channel to sensitise him/her towards nature.
Chapter 10 Value: Celebrating Diversity
• If there is a neighbour who belongs to another state or religion, you can encourage your
child to visit them on one of their festivals or invite them over for yours.
• You can take your child to a handicrafts exhibition or a museum to expose him/her to the
cultural diversity of our country.
