UP AND AWARE - 6
3. When you were young, what did you want to be?
4. What were your hobbies when you were young?
Think About and Discuss:
Did you get confused between the person you were acting as and yourself?
Look closely at your finger. You will see lines and patterns that look like hills and valleys!
Each person’s fingerprint is unique, which means that no two people in this world will
have the same fingerprint. Your fingerprint design is the same as when you were born
and will remain the same throughout your life. There is an important use of fingerprints.
The bumps of the fingerprints help us hold things and objects so they don’t slip out from
our fingers.
When we touch something, our fingers leave a print. Scientists and detectives can use
fingerprints to identify individuals. These are also used in identifying criminals. Look at the
prints below.

Paired Exercise:
Use ink, paint or a pen to colour your right hand thumb. Ask your partner to do the same
and press your thumb in the space provided on the next page. Compare your fingerprints.
Look at loops, whorls and arches to see the difference.
