You read about Professor Higgins who decides to teach the flower
girl, Eliza Doolittle, refined English in the play ‘Pygmalion’. Do you
know about different dialects of a language? Each language is spoken
in a slightly different manner depending on the area it is spoken in.
This particular form of language that is specific to an area is called
a dialect. For example, Bengali would be spoken differently in West
Bengal from how it would be spoken in Bangladesh.
In groups of five, choose an Indian language and find out about
its different dialects. Select your group’s representative and let
her/him share your findings with the classmates in the form of a
PowerPoint presentation.
