In the poem ‘On Killing a Tree’, the poet talks about
how resilient trees are, even in the face of adversities.
Environmental degradation is one of the biggest concerns
of our times. Due to deforestation, animals and plants are
losing their habitats.
Conduct an extempore in class on the theme of
environmental conservation. Make slips of possible prompts,
and put them in a bowl. Each student will come to the
front and pick a prompt. Then, he/she will get a minute to
prepare for it, after which he/she will have to speak on the
allotted topic for three minutes. Be mindful of the time
during this activity. Some possible prompts could be:

• need for afforestation
• global warming
• effects of climate change
