In the poem ‘I Sit and Think’, you read how a hobbit sang
a song recalling the past events of his life. A hobbit is a
mythical creature created by J R R Tolkien in his books.
Similarly, a dragon too is one such creature. Do you know
that dragons are an important part of Chinese culture?
They symbolise great power, good luck and strength.
Dragon dance is a traditional dance form in Chinese culture,
performed mainly during the Chinese New Year. The dance
is performed by a team of experienced dancers.
Now, organise a performance based on the Dragon dance.
You may refer to the image below. Work in groups.
Combine three chart papers and use it to design the body
of the dragon. Use sticks to hold it above your head. Make
a bright and attractive dragon mask, using coloured paper,
to put at one end of the body. Don’t forget to dress up
appropriately when you perform the dance!
