Sheet: Do you know that Mahatma Gandhi used to write on both sides of
the paper to save it?
Notebook: (nodding his head) He understood the importance of paper so many
decades ago. But people, nowadays, fail to understand it.
Sheet: The Egyptians discovered the papyrus plant. They used it to make
writing material. Then the Chinese discovered the art of making
paper by soaking old rags and beating them into pulp. They kept
this art a secret for centuries. Nobody understands the painstaking
efforts that people took in ancient times to make paper.
Sheet: There is no point. Nobody will understand our pain. I am going to
sleep in my book shelf.
The sheet of paper was woken up from its sleep when the two children in the
house, Raman and Polly, switched on the lights. Each of them had a stack of paper
in their hands.
Raman: Look for the stapler.
Polly: Okay. Meanwhile, you sort out the sheets of paper which are blank
on one side.
Raman: I have already sorted them out.
Polly: Let us begin making rough notebooks then.
Raman: Yes, this will save a lot of paper and many trees.
The sheet of paper quietly watched them making a notebook out of old paper and
one-side blank sheets. It was happy that the children were so responsible and were
concerned about the environment.
The next day, the sheet of paper talked to its friend—the notebook.
Sheet: Do you know that I saw Raman and Polly make a notebook out of
old and blank sheets?
Notebook: (surprised) Really! I see some hope in these children.
