Lab Activity

Magic of Tens and Ones

Material needed:

1. Ice-cream sticks or drinking straws

2. Rubber bands

3. Two baskets

Activity:

1. Children work in teams of 10.

2. Each child counts ten sticks, puts a rubber band around them

and places them in the tens container.

3. The left over sticks are placed in the second container.

4. Each child picks a few bundles of ten and a few sticks
from the second container.

5. The child tells the number made by the sticks from
both the containers to score a point.
For example, 2 sets of ten and 4 ones = 24

6. Each child must get a chance. The team with the most

point wins. Hurrah!
