• Have discussions with the child on the functions of different body parts, things
that help us keep our body healthy and fit. This will reinforce what they have
already learned at school.
• Play games such as ‘Show Me’. Name a body part and let your child point it out.
• You can also create riddles about the uses of different parts of the body. For
example, ask them to name a body part that helps us to see.
• You can also ask them to guess the letter a certain body part begins with. Begin
with the words they have already learnt at school.
• Make them aware of some basic moods that they might feel in a day such as
happy, angry and sad. Encourage them to talk to you about how they are feeling.
This will make them aware of how they feel at a moment and talk freely about
their feelings with you.
• Give sheets and paints to your child. Ask them to make their handprints on
the sheets. Once done, ask them to count the number of fingers they have.
• Recite poems or narrate bedtime stories to introduce your child to the world
of reading. Children love stories and they usually want to listen to the same
set of stories over and over again. This is because familiar stories provide them
pleasure and a sense of security, for they already know the plot and the sequence
of events.
• Make your child step into the world of mathematics with ease by introducing
objects of different shapes and help them get acquainted with concepts such
as matching, pairing, grouping, sorting and imagining. These objects could be
their own toys and things they see regularly and can play with at home. Extend
this to gradually introduce them to numbers and counting.
