Starfish Award

The Friends of Chimbote Starfish Award was initiated in 2012 to recognize the key
to the success of our Mission for over 40 years – the passionate people who tell our
story, engage others, raise funds and volunteer. After a hiatus for a few years due to
the pandemic and discontinuation of the Galas, we are very pleased to resume this
award with two incredible Friends of Chimbote, Sue Brennan and Pat Klein.

Sue Brennan completed numerous trips to Chimbote
decades ago including an extended stay of 10 months.
Her sustained love and compassion for our brothers and
sisters in Chimbote have been shared with her parish
of St. Patrick’s in Chesterton, Indiana. Through Sue’s
passionate advocacy and team building, St. Patrick’s
parish and parishioners have been among our most
impactful donors over the past 20 years! Thank you so
much Sue for your humble, servant leadership.

Pat Klein’s impact on our Mission is one of our greatest
blessings of the past 20 years! He shepherded us in the
challenging preparation for our founders’ retirements
and led us on a path of success and sustainability
through his 9 years on our Board of Directors with 7 as
Chair. Pat’s exemplary contributions extend beyond time
and talent to treasure, advocacy, board recruitment
and unwavering witness to prayer, perseverance and
patience. Thank you Pat for not only driving the bus but
getting everybody into the right seats including your
family!

Thank You! You are a glorious example to us all, our starfish recipients continue
to make a difference in the lives of those living in poverty in Peru.
