  Service Portfolio Management Process
A portfolio is a collection of something. There are art portfolios, wine portfolios, stock portfolios, drug companies have drug portfolios, and service providers have service portfolios. A service portfolio is used to ensure that the service provider understands the consequences of the actions that they have taken, or will take, in relation to the delivery of services. What resources have been committed to a particular service? (either development or delivery) What resources are being underutilized or over-utilized? By understanding which resources are producing an acceptable return on our investment, and which are not, a service provider is able to move resources around, or re-allocate to maximize the return. Often this return is viewed in financial terms, but can also be measured in terms of customer or employee satisfaction, sales or revenue, or strategic advantage provided.
