The Service Design Package consists of a set of documents for defining IT service requirements through each of the lifecycle stages of that service. A new SDP may be produced for each new service, each major change, or for the
retirement of a
service. It contains
everything
necessary to ensure
that Service
Transition
understands
everything
necessary to safely
roll-out the service
to live, and
everything
necessary to ensure
that Service
Operation
understands
everything
necessary to
successfully operate
and maintain
stability with the live service. Some of the topics included in the SDP are testing, service acceptance criteria, organizational readiness assessment, a lifecycle plan for the service, dependencies, new or changed functionality, contacts, agreed business needs, skills, competencies and resources needed, etc.
A Service Design Package (SDP)
should be produced by the Service Design Manager during the design stage, for each new service, or major change to a service. This pack of instructions is
then passed from Service Design to Service Transition and Service Operations. It details all aspects of the service (implementation and operational) and its requirements through all of the subsequent stages of its lifecycle.
