Service Transition’s main goal is to transition services from development into the live environment in a safe manner. This control will allow the service to deliver the expected benefits without allowing it to endanger the stability of the rest of the “already in-production” services or other infrastructure. This control includes all elements: hardware, software, networks, data centers, people, and processes needed to plan, build, test, evaluate, and deploy any new or changed service. Service Transition will involve any process, role, skill set, or activity from across the lifecycle as appropriate for the establishment of this goal.
Service Transition focuses on minimizing the risk associated with changes, while enhancing business benefits. This value to the business is delivered by allowing high volumes of change to be achieved without endangering the current environment. The business depends upon the IT services to deliver their ability to perform and meet business objectives.
