Changes to the IT environment enable new capabilities to be introduced for the business’ improvement. New and continuous business improvement is necessary to ensure that the business remains competitive within the context of their market space.
This business requirement is often encouraged by new market developments (technologically, or economically), mergers, acquisitions, or the emerging of new competitors. Without Service Transition, the business has little hope or confidence in IT to be able to meet the volumes of change required without failing to endanger what is already being delivered. Studies indicate that over 80% of all incidents within an IT environment are self induced, due to inadequate (or even missing) change control.
