Change Request Types
A change request is a formal communication seeking an alteration to one or more configuration items. A change request could be submitted in several different ways or forms.
• A ‘request for change’ document
• service desk call
• project initiation document
• Change proposal
Different types of change may require different types of change request. Depending upon the risk and consequences, or the intensity of the change; an organization may require that change request be submitted in a different manner or with different amounts of documentation. Proper planning needs to occur to ensure that appropriate procedures and forms are available to cover the anticipated requests. Don’t require major documentation for a minor change. Avoid bureaucracy at all costs.
