 Organization of the ITIL® Core
The ITIL® core is organized around an understanding of the lifecycle of a service. The core consists of the 5 books (service strategy, service design, service transition, service operation, continual service improvement). Each book is named for a lifecycle stage.
This organization of material is designed to facilitate understanding. The structure identifies activities, behaviors, policies and objectives that should happen or be applied at each stage of the life of a service. This same lifecycle understanding could be applied to product development.
