3. The Big Rif
If one assumes that the dark energy is not constant, and it eventually increases over
time, the “big riff” happens.
In this scenario, the galaxies starts moving away from each others and also starts
expanding within. As a result, the stars, planets, satellites and eventually, the
molecules and atoms, all on all tear apart.
But according to some astrophysics, if the Big Rif is to happen, it can only happen
after a 120 billion years, which is quite more than the other possible ends.
4. Vacuum Decay
Unlike, the above three, this “vacuum decay” can happen at any moment, may be
right now too! This is based on something called the Higgs’ field, which is spread
throughout the universe, and varies in strength based on its potential.
Here’s the problem: If the universe is found to be in something called a “false
vacuum state”, then it means that there’s an altenate reality which is at a lower
Higgs’ field strength than our reality!
In that case, if an event happened in our reality liberate enough energy to enter into
alternate reality of lower energy level, then our current ends that exact moment,
causing total destruction!
More fearing is the fact that this “Vacuum Decay” happens without any prior signs
of occurring!
These are just a few possible endings, there are a lot of other terrific ends which our
universe could go int. Although we are dead long before the universe dies, knowing
about its end still brings in a sense of fear and panicness in all of us!
