Robert Davies was honoured as a Legend into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame in 2001.
Robert Davies’ feats in horse racing are unparalleled. He is the only man to ride in the Queen’s Plate as well as own, train and breed winners of the Plate. Davies founded the Dominion Brewing Co., was President of Copland Brewing and was head of Don Brick Yards and Don Valley Paper Co.
He was also the President of the Canadian Horse Breeders’ Association and became one of Toronto’s wealthiest citizens. Davies also owned Standardbreds and was rst Vice-President (1895- 1904) of the Ontario Jockey Club. His Thorncliffe Stable was a dominant out t until the 1940’s.

Besides Dick Rockwell, the Davies ancestors did not carry on their horseracing heritage however Tyler remembers that the King’s Plate Cup was prominent in the living room at home when he was growing up.

Unfortunately A Fleets Dancer nished eleventh in the 2001 Breeders’ Cup Classic race. He was retired in 2002 and went on to a brief stud career (a paddock accident ended his life in 2007).
His progeny included the K.K. Sangara owned, Dancingall Theway, trained by Lorne Richards at Woodbine. The gelding retired with 8 wins, 5 seconds and 1 third and more than $425,000 in earnings.

Photo right - Two-year-old Parisia with Trainer Mike Mattine’s Assistant William Terrenzio, broke her maiden in the 2001 Victorian Queen Stakes on October 3 after a second place nish in the Muskoka and a third in the Nandi Stakes. Parisia is the half sister to multiple Stakes winner Parisianprospector, both out of the mare Parisian Gladiator (Great Gladiator) owned and bred by John Carey.
Owned by Theodore Burnett, Parisia was retired
in 2002 and went on to produce multiple Stakes winning mare, Tasty Temptation ($542,343) owned by Woodford Racing and trained by Mark Casse.
