The Negative Effects of
Blue Screen
I suppose this type of topic should be taken seriously. Well, everyone has probably heard a lot about the impacts of
too much blue screen on our overall health and wellbeing.
Screens are a part of everyone’s life nowadays. Especially due to the rapidly rising development of technique
technology. From young children to working adults, even the elderly get a great amount of daily screen time from
their numerous digital devices. It is basically connected to the reason that we consume so much content about the
modern news, which allows us to keep up with the latest updates about the present-day. Thus, we do not even
bother to look into the negative sides of spending too much time on this consumption and trying to balance it.
We should definitely know enough about the actual consequences that we might experience if we do not manage
our screen time. It generally leads to physical problems which include physical strain to the eyes, body and can
cause physical changes to the body such as obesity. Staring at the screen for long periods with poor posture could
lead to strain on the back. Glaring blue light without resting your eyes, could lead to blurry vision. Furthermore, the
most common is sleep disturbance. Using digital devices right before bedtime affects sleep hormones, which make
it harder for us to sleep. The scariest of these is the loss of cognitive abilities such as concentration, weaker
memory, and slower information processing. These effects are particularly worrying for children growing up whose
brains are still yet to develop. Moreover, it lowers self-esteem and weakens emotional judgement. Mental health is
an issue that should be a priority in adolescents. Spending too much time in the virtual world of screens can impact
how you perceive yourself. It leads to a weakened self-identity and confidence such as a craving to be one of the
beauty standards these days. As well, exposure to violent media content can also increase aggression levels and
panic attacks, especially in youth.
The most worrying consequence is screen addiction. If you cannot get out of your comfort zone and control your
time on the screen, you may realize it much too late that you were trapped in a cycle of addiction. What I am saying
is keep the balance and do not spend too much time on the screen.
