Does a prison seem like an unusual place to run a Bible institute?
Praise — Thank God for what he does From 1986 to 1996, Medellín, Colombia was known as the murder
capital of the world. Many blame the violence on Colombia’s

the poverty line. The prisons are overcrowded, including Bellavista

Since 1993, teachers and students from the Biblical Seminary of
Colombia have been teaching the Bible to prisoners in Bellavista
Prison. Each day, 100 to 200 prisoners gather in the chapel to
hear God’s Word and to sing praises to Jesus.
Some prisoners become pastors and begin churches inside other
prisons when they are transferred. After being released from pris-
on, some start churches in their neighborhoods.
Many prisoners’ lives are totally changed. They want to serve Je-
sus when they are released from jail. Some preach in local church-
es while others help young men who are trapped in gangs and
drug use. There is even a sports club to help kids and teenagers
