My name is Mari. Presents
Welcome to Haiti!
I live in the village of Ti-Bois with my parents,
three sisters, and two brothers.
Our house is made with mud walls and
a thatch roof. My dad is working to
repair the roof, which caved in during
the rainy season.
My entire family sleeps on straw mats on
the floor all in the same room.
My favorite foods are rice and beans, fried bananas, and
mangoes. My mother cooks our food in a large pot over an

One Mission Society began working in Haiti in 1958 by partnering with
Radio 4VEH. Haiti shares the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic.
The Republic of Haiti is the world’s first black republic. They won their freedom
from the French in 1804. The island shaped like a backward “C” is considered
one of the most beautiful in the Caribbean Ocean.
The people of Haiti are cheerful, friendly, and very creative.
