P. 12
"The Musician" Hua Qi Min shares his stories of love,
adventure and legends through his
carefully and meticulously painted
images.
China has a rich history of poetry, art
and traditions. Various forms of music,
developed through succeeding
dynasties, produced the rich heritage
of music that is part of the Chinese
cultural landscape today.
The New Cultural Movement of the
1910s and 1920s produced a lasting
interest in Western music.
In later years, the Communist Party
denounced Chinese popular music as
yellow music.
Min's musician seems to be protected
by the guard and the buddha-like
figure. We can hear her play among the
lotus flowers and the humming bird,
sharing her music about love and life.
A beautiful story unfolds if we take time
to stop, look and listen.
