DAY2
A VERY LONG DAY
Well the first full day at the NICU has ended. It seems as
though this has been going on for weeks now rather than only a
few days. It was nice to be there with Heidi and Jim, and to just
sit with Kathie at the bassinet and watch Alyssa.
I'm sure that with time we will get use to all of the life support
monitoring systems, indicators, and alarms going off on a
regular basis, but yesterday, it was very trying for everyone.
For the most part, Alyssa rested peacefully. But, as to be
expected in this situation, we also were witness to several
times of struggle when the doctors and nurses had to intervene
and make the necessary corrections to her many medical
connections. But as we left late last night, everything was fine
and, all in all, it was a very good first day. Only about 100 more
to go!
Heidi put in way too much time there, having just been
released from the hospital. But she told us she was going to
leave shortly after we did last night to finally get off of her feet
and rest. Jim arranged for them to stay at the Ronald McDonald
House for the next week. Hopefully that will allow both of
them to take the necessary breaks that they will need.
Since Heidi was beginning to feel personal responsibility and
blame for the unforeseen turn of events, I wrote Heidi and Jim
Call upon Me in the day of trouble. a letter from Alyssa to her Mom and Dad:
I will deliver thee, and thou shall glorify Me.
Psalm 50:15
Lord, we don’t understand the circumstances or events
surrounding this nightmare. We can only continue to seek You,
and to ask You to deliver us – for Your glory. Amen
