WE NEED YOUR HELP
The issue of law and order is the focus of much attention in the United States today. The criminal justice system is
attempting to improve it's effectiveness in controlling and preventing crime. The continum of the criminal justice
system is normally depicted as being comprised of the police, the courts and corrections. The criminal justice
system exists to serve the citizen, but it also includes the citizen. It requires that every person become involved to
some degree and participate in the carrying out of it's goals and objectives.
What is the average citizen doing to assist in the prevention of crime and community service? If the citizens have
the right to demand that certain deviant members of the community be prevented from continuing certain
behavior, then they also have the obligation to create the type of atmosphere, programs and facilities that will help
prevent this type of behavior. Crime prevention is a total community concern. It cannot be left only to the profes-
sionals in the criminal justice system.
It is time for the citizen to play a more active role in the criminal justice system in order to prevent society from
becoming more fear-centered and crime ridden. Individually, a person can become very involved on a voluntary
basis. However, if citizens can organize themselves into a consistent, constructive force, they can multiply many
times their individual effectiveness toward improving the criminal justice system.
The Plymouth Police Officers Assiciation is proud to have many concerned citizens volunteer their time in assisting
the Plymouth Police. The Plymouth Community Service Auxiliaries, Plymouth Area Citizen's Team, and REACT are
three groups active in the Plymouth community and deserve recognition. But they are not enough, Plymouth
neighborhoods need to organize strong and effective Neighborhood Watch programs and participate in Operation
Identification. The Plymouth Police Officers Association encourages the formation of these groups and are willing
to assist them in any way that we can. If you have any questions about starting a Neighborhood Watch please feel
free to contact us.
