          SESSIONS

          Session Focus and Progression

          COMMUNITY GROUPS 1 and 2

Community groups 1 and 2 involved young people in the community who identified as ‘at risk’ across the risk
          spectrum.

Each community group participated in an eight session online video conferencing program.

Staying true to the ‘empowerment’ theme of the program, Session 1 - My Mentor had the participants selecting
          their mentor for the program.

As part of this process mentors provided a brief presentation of who they were, and why they decided to be
part of the program, and participants were given an opportunity to ask mentors questions before they made
          their choice.

Session 2 - This is Me had participants and mentors in breakout groups getting to know each other in an
          informal way.

Session 3 - Life is Like a Book set the platform for the program. Using a video of comedian Kevin Hart as
inspiration, the session looks at the analogy that life is like a book with many chapters, and a narrative that
each participant can write and determine.

Session 4 - Superpowers has participants understanding that everyone is born with natural Superpowers, and
how recognising and building on those Superpowers can drive them to reach their dreams in life.

Sessions 5 - 7 has participants understaning that Superpowers alone can not lead to what they want in life,
without a success mindset, resilience, self-confidence and taking responsibility for yoru actions.

Session 8 - Dream Big, Set Goals introduces the concept of goal-setting to participants, and that without goals
          dreams are just dreams.

          CUSTODY GROUPS

Custody groups 1 and 2 involved young people in the Melbourne Youth Justice Centre, Parkville.

Due to the transient nature of these groups, the restrictions around the use of video conferencing
technology, and the relaxation of contact and distancing rules around CO-VID, these sessions were run on
location, and were based on playing football.

          EMPOWER Online Journal

Each participant in the community groups was provided with an EMPOWER Online Journal - a personalised
record of their experiences and contributions through the program, at the conclusion of Phase 1.

Each journal contains videos of participants discussing issues and thoughts that are important to them, advice
and contributions from mentors, and videos that have acted as inspiration for discussion during sessions.

An example of an EMPOWER JOURNAL can be viewed on Page 22-25.
