Our Challenges
In Australia, we have universal health systems that are
predominantly funded by the taxpayer, with the exception of dental
health, that is designed to deliver safe, high quality care in the right
place at the right time.
The challenge is how we provide these services to rural and remote
areas, and overcome the tyranny of distance.
The RFDS was one of the first to adopt tele health, using the pedal
radio and Morse code almost 100 years ago.
Unfortunately, the health outcomes of rural and remote Australians,
and in particular our Aboriginal communities, is not as good as
most metropolitan areas.
Access to appropriate services remain a significant challenge.
