Injuries in
Rural and
Remote
Australia
INJURY COST
The cost of Australia’s 1.8 million injury-related hospital admissions totalled $1 billion in
the 14/15 financial year.
Flying Doctor research finds this cost could be slashed with a new strategy to prevent
injuries and reduce avoidable hospital admissions.
CITY v COUNTRY
A remote Australian has double the risk of an avoidable injury than a city resident.
CHILDREN
One in three child hospitalizations in the last year was for avoidable injury, and country
children face twice the injury risk than city kids.
Sadly, injury claims more children’s lives each year than cancer and nervous system
illnesses combined. Flying Doctor research calls for new strategies to prevent
accident-related child deaths.
