WORLD HANDICAP SYSTEM
In January 2020, the World Handicap System was implemented worldwide changing the way a golfer calculates scores for post- ing. Under Rule #3, there are three circumstances that must be addressed when determining what score to post.
Maximum Hole Score – Rule 3.1
The maximum number of strokes I can take on a hole is a “Net Double- Bogey”.
Net Double-Bogey is simply a double bogey + any handicap strokes you are allocated for the hole you are playing. Simply, that is par + 2 + any handicap strokes you are allocated on the hole.
Example: You are playing Hole #10 at Terravita which is a par 4 and is rated as the most difficult hole on the course. Your Course Handicap is 19 therefore you would be receiving (2) two handicap strokes for this hole. Your maximum score is:
Double-bogey (par 4 + 2) = 6 + 2 (your allocated handicap strokes)
Maximum score = 8
Hole Not Played – Rule 3.2
If I do not play a hole for a legitimate reason, the score
I must post is a “Net Par”. Examples of circumstances that may result in a round not being completed and some holes not being played include: fading light or bad weather, player illness or injury, a match finishing before the final hole is played. Net Par is simply par + any handicap strokes you are allocated for the hole you are playing.
Example: You have played holes 1 through 17 at Terravita and have run out of daylight. You are unable to play hole #18 which is a par 4 and rated as the 11th most difficult hole for women. Your Course Hand- icap is 19, therefore you would be receiving (1) one handicap stroke for this hole. The score you must post is:
Par + 1 (your allocated handicap stroke) Score = 5 Continued on Page 13
