The Mid-Term Board Meeting in New York was well attended and many topics were discussed
throughout the day. Your board worked hard to find new ways to bring value to members and
sponsors and talked at length about the concern for privacy restrictions in this upcoming
Congressional session. New York was an interesting venue with a diversity of people, lots to see and
do. It was our first time there and although we probably didn’t do it justice, we visited Central Park,
Times Square, Battery Park, saw the Statue of Liberty, and most humbling the 9/11 memorial and World Trade Center.

The food in New York was amazing with so many different ethnicities we jumped from Italian to American to Korean to
French and loved all of it. If you’ve never been it’s certainly a place to visit. I urge each of our members to help us spread
the word about NCISS. In this upcoming legislative session advocacy for our profession will be crucial and your
membership dollars help us do that. Letting your colleagues know about NCISS and how important it is to be a member
helps our association represent your interests and gives our profession a voice. Thank you for your continued support!

As the 2nd Vice President, my duties include monitoring various regions of NCISS. I am also a member
of the CALI Board of Directors and a member of the CALI Government Affairs Committee. Participation
counts! California recently enacted legislation (Bill 375) related to consumer privacy rights that may be
used as the model for other states and the federal government. NCISS and our lobbyist have been
following the new bill. There are restrictions in the bill that could impact every investigator in the
United States. California’s new law goes into effect in 2020.

My focus in the next several months and even the next few years, is to support NCISS to reduce the impact caused by
the California legislation, and the bills we anticipate being introduced in the House this year. How do we do that?
Educating our members of the dangers the anticipated privacy bills could cause to our industry. Expanding our
membership to have a stronger voice in Washington, and to work with Congress to educate about investigators and
security experts.

If you wonder what NCISS does for you, view NCISS as your insurance policy. You don’t make claims every day. When the
big claim comes, and the upcoming privacy fight is that “claim,” you will want NCISS protecting you at every turn.

I encourage everyone to participate, ask questions, attend Hit the Hill in April, and help us with outreach to your
legislator to begin this important process.

Thank you for allowing me to serve as your 3rd Vice President. As we move to the spring of 2019, I
look forward to representing you at the Hit the Hill event in Washington, D.C. this April 29 to May
th
1st. As you may have heard, Congress appears to be ready to take up the prospect of a privacy law
similar to what has been enacted in California and elsewhere. Such laws are the result of pro-privacy
movements whose origin are rooted deep in the European Union. Recently, I had the opportunity to
provide a detailed continuing education seminar at the World Association of Detectives annual conference.

With the assistance of a UK based investigator, we explored the difference between US privacy law and the European
privacy solution, the GPDR. Although they are miles apart, I do believe that their will be an attempt to mimic portions of
the widely publicized European law. Therefore, it is vitally important to be make our presence known at our annual Hit
the Hill event. Your relationship with your local congressman may be what we need to protect your interest to operate
your business. Feel free to call me if you have questions regarding the schedule, travel arrangements, and what to
