Hello Abandoned Souls, Congrats to your new single “SICK CREATURES” what has been the response from fans worldwide so far?
Thank you. The response and comments so far have been fantastic. People seem to be really loving it and we are very grateful for that. This new
music has been a long time coming. For an independent band that was on a more than two year forced hiatus, we are super stoked with how things
are going with this release. We are so glad to be back!
Please tell us some details about the fantastic video for the single.
We wanted to do something a bit different than we have before. We also wanted the video to be kind of creepy but also be sort of light-hearted.
Perhaps it could be looked at as a bit of a spoof on the last couple of years. Everyone will have their own thoughts on what is the meaning
behind it. But really it is just an embellished fictional scenario inspired by history. The goal was to make it interesting and entertaining.
Abandoned Souls has an EP coming out March 10th, please tell us some details about that.
It’s a five song EP titled, “Sick Creatures.” The title track was the lead single and was released on Jan. 13. The songs are very much inspired by the
circumstances of the last few years. The lyrics push towards a more positive outlook while at times reflecting on the negativity that people sometimes
have to deal with in life. We recorded it at Foundation Studio, which is my studio. Derek tracked the guitars at his studio and sent them to me. With
everything going on over the last few years this process was very slow, but in the end the songs turned out great and we can’t wait to
share them all with everyone.
Please tell us about working with the Canada legend Brian Vollmer (Helix) on one of your
tracks.
When we were recording our “Insightful Minds at Ease” album, Brian was my vocal coach. One day
when we were chatting a bit about how things were going in the studio, he mentioned that if I ever
wanted him to do any vocals on it, that he would be more than happy to. Funny thing is, I’d already
been thinking about asking him if he’d be interested in doing just that. So he kind of kicked the door
open for me on the topic. He ended up singing with me on the track, “Save It All.” We were really
happy with how the song turned out and I was honoured to have him on it. It was a pleasure
recording and working with him in the studio on this. Great vocalist, mentor and a class act.
Thank you for taking time for this interview, any last words to the fans?
