Before making his big move to Liverpool, Mac Allister joined Brighton from Argentinian side Argentinos Juniors during the 2019 January transfer window for a fee of £8 Million. He finished the 2019 season on loan back at Argentinos Juniors. Then the following season he spent his time on loan back in Argentina again, but this time with Boca Juniors he excelled so much that brighton decided to bring him back 4 months before his loan was ending to help Brighton stay in the premier league during the 2020/21 season.

The 24-year-old midfielder, generated a lot of curiosity among fans due to his surname not sounding typically South American. His father and agent, Carlos, who played for Boca Juniors and represented Argentina, explained in an interview that their family migrated from Ireland to Argentina generations ago.
