PP HARTNETT. RAW. REAL.
Balaclava Interview by Johan Kalinowski
PP Hartnett is possibly the most uncompromising, provocative and
downright shocking author presently writing in Britain.
'As the editor of The Gay Times Book of Short Stories #1, New Century, New
Writing (MPG 2000) and The Gay Times Book of Short Stories #2, The Next
Wave (MPG 2002), my hope was to kick collective ass. By introducing a
much-needed new breed of diverse voices, the mission was to present
another perspective. Co-editing City Secrets with Cathy Bolton of
Manchester's Commonword (Crocus Books 2003) the intention was to
invigorate the shelves of LGBTQ+ material with raw and real content that is
connected to NOW.'
Hartnett is a man on a mission.
'I'm currently seeking submissions for an XXXPOSURE 'special', due out in
January 2025. The deadline is 1st December, 2024.'
'The hope is for short, sharp thought grenades rather than prissy fiction. I'm
hoping this will be of interest to those at the extreme edge of the so-called
queer 'community'. What I dream for is from-the-heart honest disclosures.
“City Life”
'In this digital age, the short-term and long-term effects of Internet
pornography need to be assessed and evaluated,' states the quietly-spoken
award-winning Irish author from his remote home in Kirkcudbrightshire,
Scotland. 'For me, Internet sites such as recon.com and fuck nites in urban
hotspots and grotspots offer more to my imagination than the sanitised
content pumped our way by publishers. I reject such sanitisation. My work
reflects the dark side of desire, anal warts ‘n’ all.'
