Figure 6. Sailor’s Stowing Coil
The sailors’ stowing coil method doesn’t look as neat, but it better preserves the
integrity of the coils (they’re less likely to snag when the rope is tossed out).
Procedure: Coil the rope and double the last few feet to form a long loop. Wind
the loop around the coil and secure with a pair of half hitches, as illustrated.
Hang your rope from the loop at top.
