This easy bend will join two ropes of unequal thickness. The ropes won’t slip
when a load is applied. Sliding figures of eight performs the same task as the
classic sheet bend (see page 52), but it’s easier to untie when the rope has been
subjected to a heavy load. Make the figure eights as illustrated, then pull them
tight and slide them together. The bond strengthens as tension is applied. To
undo the knot, grab the short working ends of the figure eights and pull them
apart. The knots will untie easily when they are separated.
