Our Educational Goals
Our curriculum has been built and developed based on the educational goals we have for our students. These goals cultivate and maximize each student’s unique talents and abilities so he or she will be well-equipped for the rigors of college and the workplace.
We develop the ability to think critically.
Critical thinking is the basis for college-level learning. We challenge all students to extend their knowledge by evaluating arguments, conducting active research, participating in classroom discussion and debate, and expressing their learning through writing and presentations.
We learn to work independently and
interdependently.
To meet the demands of today’s connected world, students
must learn to work both independently and interdependently. As a community of learners, students are given opportunities to collaborate and explore together in both small and large group settings. Simultaneously, students are encouraged to think for themselves, choose class loads that meet their individual needs, and set personal goals as they work their way toward graduation.
We conduct active research.
In the age of information, students must learn the methods of active research. After forming research hypotheses, students test them with a variety of active research methods that include:
• Evaluating sources for credibility and accuracy.
• Consulting primary sources.
• Conducting focus groups, experiments, interviews, and
observations.
• Analyzing data for patterns and validity.
• Forming conclusions determined by their active research.
We express ourselves through writing and
presenting.
The ability to express ideas, learning, and conclusions is the culmination of critical thinking and active research, as well as the differentiator of college-level learning. Academic writing is at the heart of all core classes at our Academy, not just in the English classrooms. Students also learn how to organize and deliver information to varying audiences across every discipline.
We prepare for a world that is constantly changing.
With constant developments in technology, communication, and science, we recognize that we are preparing our students for jobs that don’t yet exist. By providing students with the skills they need to be lifelong learners, we prepare students for whatever the future holds.
