Marv & Barb Ten Clay Deephaven, Minnesota

The Ten Clay family started their Hosta Garden over 30 years ago, when Marv purchased six hosta
varieties from a friend at work. In 2000, they built a sunroom addition and goldfish ponds behind the
house. For the next 15 years, they removed many buckthorn trees and planted more hostas as
space became available. They have a one-acre lot with about one-fourth of it planted with
hostas. Currently, they have almost 1,000 different varieties of hostas within their eight different
         theme gardens.

After Marv retired in 2008, he worked part-time doing insurance reviews in Minnesota and
Wisconsin. While traveling, he had a chance to stop at various garden centers and purchase many
         more hostas for their collection.

Marv has been a member of the MHS since 1993 and a member of the AHS since 1996. Marv is
currently the chairperson of the MHS annual Society Hosta Plant Sale. Marv and Barb have hosted
many potting parties for the various society sales throughout the years.
