Darlene & Chuck Addison Minnetonka, Minnesota

I’m pretty sure I got the flower/plant bug at an early age says Darlene Addison. However, never
having lived in a house with a yard until 1992, I might’ve gone a tad overboard. Her husband,
Chuck, didn’t mind having less grass to mow and she knows he enjoys seeing her happy digging in
the dirt. Having a yard with a lot of shade, the gardens naturally have become full of hosta plants
accompanied by companion plants, yard art, and birdbaths. Darlene has made up for lost time with
her collection of 600 or so varieties of (labeled) hosta plants tucked into a suburban lot sized
garden. She says: “If I see it and I like it, I buy it and find a bare spot to plant it!”

Joining the Minnesota Hosta Society in the early 1990’s has certainly turned her into a “hostaholic”.
The bonus has been the gaining of new friends who share the same love of hosta gardening. She
loves going for daily walks around the garden to visit the plants and see how they’ve grown and
then decide on her favorite hosta . . . of the day. She tends to like the large, graceful look of hostas
such as H. ‘Abba Dabba Do’, and H. ‘Leading Lady’. However, when she looks around and sees H.
‘Sagae’ and H. ‘Ivory Coast’ looking back at her, THEY become her favorites. How does one
         decide?

Very creative fencing. Hosta leaf cookies, beautiful and delicious!
