Kathy & Ben Boenisch Shoreview, Minnesota

Kathy shares her love of hostas with her neighbor across the street, Linda Butwinick. For almost
20 years they have been hosta shopping and sharing hostas with each other; it’s been a passion.
She originally started her hosta garden in her suburban sized lot because the birch trees in her front
yard were shading out the grass. Through some research, Kathy found out there were plants that
did well in the shade, so she asked her husband Ben to dig her a garden. Of course, when the
passion grew (or sickness or whatever you want to call it), she continued to dig up more yard and
landscaping to build more gardens. Many are the “standard/common” hosta varieties, which are still
some of her favorites, along with recent new additions she has acquired through her great
Minnesota Hosta Society and recent AHS conventions. She also has a love of rocks to help with
visual interest in the gardens. Her motto is “There’s always room for one more hosta!”

              H. ‘Tattoo,’ a very desirable hosta. Vintage pump fits right in.
