Dear Friend,

I am honored to be a scholarship recipient at Morehouse School of Medicine, and I would like to
express my earnest gratitude and appreciation for your generosity and support of my medical school
education. Thank you for your generosity in support of the Gloster Society and Gloster Celebration
               event.

I am a first-year medical school student. I attended Georgia Southern University, where I earned my
bachelor’s degree in Biology. Unlike many, I did not grow up dreaming of becoming a physician.
Contrarily, I grew up in Haiti, with the dreams of following my grandmother’s footstep of becoming
a chef. However, my traumatic experience of being part of the destructive earthquake that struck
Haiti in 2010 changed my career perspective. I witnessed people suffer due to the unavailability of
healthcare. Thus, my goal and aspirations changed, which stemmed my passion for medicine.

Consequently, I believe that I would be able to make the most considerable impact by serving as a
primary care physician. Specifically, I am interested in Obstetrics, an area of medicine that lacks
representation. In this role, I feel that I will be able to make the most difference in the lives of the
women that I encounter. In the far future, one of my goals is to open my own clinic in an
underserved community to give women access to the basic health care that they need. I picked the
Morehouse School of Medicine to obtain my medical school education, because their mission aligns
with my values of improving health equity.

By awarding me a scholarship, you have help to alleviate my financial burden, which redirects my
focus to the most significant facet of school: learning. I hope one day I will be able to pay it forward
and assist students in achieving their goals just as you have done for me.

Thank you again for your generosity and support of my medical school education, which will play a
key role in helping me achieve my dream.

               Sincerely,

               Michara Chataigne
