Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) was founded in 1975 during
the tenure of president, Hugh M. Gloster, PhD, and dean, Louis W.
Sullivan, MD, as the Medical Education Program at Morehouse College
before becoming an independently chartered institution in 1981. MSM is
the first predominantly black medical institution established in the 20th
century. 300+
Morehouse School of Medicine exists to improve the health and
well-being of individuals and communities; increase the diversity of COMMUNITIES served
the health professional and scientific workforce; and address primary by MSM initiatives
health care needs through programs in education, research, and service and programs
with emphasis on people of color and the underserved urban and rural
populations in Georgia, the nation, and the world.
MSM awards degrees in Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of
Philosophy in Biomedical Sciences (PhD), Master of Public Health
(MPH), Master of Science in Medical Sciences (MSMS), Master of
Science in Biomedical Research (MSBR), Master of Science in Clinical
Research (MSCR), Master of Science in Biomedical Technology (MSBT), MSM ALUMNI
Master of Science in Neuroscience (MSNS), and most recently a Master Giving Rate Ranks
of Science in Physican Assistant Studies (PA). MSM also has seven 9th
residency programs: Family Medicine, Preventive Medicine, Internal Among all US
Medicine, Psychiatry, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Pediatrics. Medical Schools
For more than 40 years, Morehouse School of Medicine has been
identifying, nurturing, and guiding students of unusual ability to become
the next generation of healthcare leaders with a commitment to serving
the underserved. We are producing doctors and healthcare professionals
who are not just supremely capable, but also curious, compassionate, and
community-focused—the kind of culturally competent practitioners the
country needs right now.
