Greetings Mr. Anthony and Mrs. Beatrice Welters:
I hope this letter finds you all well and in good spirits. I am writing this letter to thank Mr.
Anthony and Mrs. Beatrice Welters for the Beatrice Welters Scholarship. It is truly an honor to
be a recipient of the Beatrice Welters Scholarship.
The seeds planted to shape my history were simple, if dramatic. I have no magical story about
suddenly discovering my love for medicine. My modest upbringing with a single mother in a
poor neighborhood provided me with a life I desperately wanted to escape. Gang violence, and
illicit drug use, kindled my burning passion to get out, but also to serve others. With very few
role models and mentors, I still knew I wanted to be a force of change in my neighborhood.
Being a first-generation college student, I was honored to participate in the Morehouse School of
Medicine Masters in Medical Science Program, where I earned a 3.8 GPA.
Along my journey, I have learned that you cannot expect for others to have the same passion as
you once you decide to commit your life to service. It is always an exhilarating experience
whenever I encounter others with the same perspective I have on the topic of service. The effort
that you all are taking to provide underrepresented students, who strive to serve, with a means to
pursue a medical education while being community advocates is truly remarkable.
This generous award not only contributes to my medical education, but it has also helped relieve
some of my daily stressors that impacted my ability to be a scholar. More specifically, I was
without a motor vehicle and it was a financial burden/struggle to find transportation to and from
school. This award allowed me to be able to purchase a small affordable vehicle, and now I can
place more focus on my studies and continue to lead by example. I am privileged to be a
Beatrice Welters Scholar and will hold that title with pride. I am forever grateful for this
investment into my future and I will represent you all the best way I know how. Thank you!
Peace and Blessings!
Respectfully,
