How it works…
• Extracts of the plant were tested in the lab and displayed the ability to block
the replication of HIV. We have also tested the activity against other
enveloped viruses such as SIV and Ebola virus and found activity.
• We now know that a protein from the plant a is responsible for this activity.
• The protein binds to HIV and blocks its ability to enter cells.
• Exposure to the protein causes the circulating virus to change.
• These changes allows the body to mount its own defense in the form of
antibodies.
• These antibodies suppress the virus long-term and keep virus at
undetectable levels.
After 15 years the
