MINISTERS OF RELIGION
Each Monday of the past year this School has welcomed visiting clergy
who have freely given of their time to help in the spiritual development of our
students, thus preparing them to become better citizens of the community.
In the light of the following Bible verse, “Remember now thy Creator in
the days of thy youth”, Christian education is both necessary and vital. There
fore, we sincerely thank each person who has contributed in this important
service for God.
The following denominational groups were represented : Assembly of God,
Baptist, Church of Christ, Church of England, Jehovah’s Witness, Lutheran,
Methodist, Presbyterian, Roman Catholic, Salvation Army.
PARENTS AND CITIZENS' ASSOCIATION
What are we trying to do ?
At work and at play, or in fact in everyday life, we must sometimes stop
and ask ourselves this question. Too frequently the purpose of a project is
lost in the confusion which results from trying to achieve it.
We the people who form your Parents and Citizens’ Association are very
human, and in being human, we are subject to the faults and failings of our
kind, so we must stop and ask the question : “What are we trying to do?”
We are fortunate that we can turn to the constitution under which we operate,
and read that section which refers to objects.
To refresh the memory of parents and to let our students know what our
constitution has to say about objects, I will quote :—
“The objects of the Association shall be :
(a) To do all things possible for the betterment of the general condi
tions and amenities at the Wynnum State High School.
(b) To establish a fund for the general conduct of the Association.
(c) To expend money in accordance with the stated objects of the
Association.
(d) To foster community interest in educational matters, in particular
to co-operate with the Principal and Staff of the Wynnum State
High School in the best interests of the children of the school.”
There is no doubt that these are sweeping objects and can be read to cover
all fields, which must result in the betterment of the Wynnum State High School,
and to the benefit of the students who attend this school.
1969 has been in some ways a very pleasing year for the Association and
in other ways a year during which we experienced some disappointments.
On the pleasing side, our finance and co-ordination committee has run some
successful projects, resulting in increased funds for the Association.
