Mouth objects
This is how the baby learns about the
world. As early as 5 months old they start
to reach out and mouth-look-confirm the
properties of objects. Every sensory organ
in our body is mapped out in our brain.
The sensory structures in our hands and
mouth occupy a relatively large area of the
brain, called sensory homunculus. This is
also the beginning of speech development
in which it helps to train the muscles
around the mouth and tongue.
